How We Cut

Pictorially below you can follow the inspection and cutting process of the rough from the as
received condition to a finished gem. At each point in the process steps are taken to insure
the gem is cut to precise angles and dimensions.

Here parcels of aquamarine, spessarite
garnet, & tourmaline await inspection.

After sorting and inspection, the
individual pieces of rough are preformed
(top picture)that is ground to an
approximate finished shape that final
gem will take. They are then attached (as
showndirectly above) to a "dop" to be
cut.

From the rough to the finished Gem -- the cutting process

Here a sapphire, during the cutting
process, is being carefully inspected
to insure correct proportions.

The "dop" is then inserted into a
precision faceting (cutting) machine.
Here a large Peridot is bing cut.

Treatments & synthetics.

First, Gems by Gregory does not treat any gem!! Nor will we knowingly cut synthetic material. To the very
best of our knowledge all of our rough is produced by nature. If it is determined that one of our gems is
synthetic it will be replaced free of charge immediately. That is our pledge.

Having said that, there are treatments performed on the rough to enhance their appearance and or
color--such as heat treatment. This is commonly done worldwide on gem rough such as sapphire &
aquamarine and many people state that this heat treating is merely finishing what nature started. At times
emeralds are oiled. These treatments are carried out by suppliers of the rough before we receive it. In all
cases you will informed before you purchase a gem from us if we have any knowledge whatsoever that a
gem has been treated. Any treatments that we are aware of will absolutely will be stated in our gem
gallery/description along with on your invoice/bill of sale.
